Exploratorium

Volunteering at the Exploratorium is a blast! I learned a lot, met great people, and got to work around with them. I still have to pinch myself whenever I walk back into the museum for the experience is surreal.

I got to show my design skills when I was assigned to create a 4-panel brochure-souvenir for the Volunteer Appreciation Day. They wanted me to incorporate the current location of the museum moving to the new space which is also reflected with the history text they provided. An awesome idea struck me to create this:

The brochure when folded inwards can connect both the locations with some of the faces of the volunteers at the back :)

And it was a success! We printed it out and looked rad! I even had the pleasure of going around San Francisco to find cool print shops and have these brochures folded by me.

The Exploratorium reopens on April 17, 2013 at Pier 15 with more fun, surprises, and knowledge for everybody!

Larong Pinoy

My colleagues and fellow administrators at Vector X Vexel Philippines Southern Luzon has created a 2013 calendar project I led. We collaborated well and learned a lot from the experience.

We chose the theme Larong Pinoy which is traditional Filipino street games that is rapidly degrading from existence in the Philippines because of technology. We wanted to share our happiness with these games, have others remember as well, and be able to teach all generations to play these games. This calendar is a step to counter the effects of too much digital life.

Aside from leading the 2013 calendar project and creating the layout, I was also assigned to do the back cover.

Larong Pinoy

This illustration (also titled "Larong Pinoy") shows a man jumping through a portal from everything hi-tech to where his roots of playing street games were.

I am very proud of my team! We had fun and succeeded with the final product we envisioned. Hoping to get my copy as soon as possible :)

Community Project: Vectortuts+ Custom Character Jam

I participated at Vectortuts+ Custom Character Jam which is a community project where artists were given a character template and design it to our liking. We can even change the template itself but I have no interest in doing so :p

I have created three lovable characters out of my imagination. Each one has a corresponding story behind them :)

"Justice Magnet"

Description:

Justice Magnet is a nanorobot who works in groups. Their bodies are covered with strips of magnet that can detect viruses which in fact works well with their laser-shooting-forehead.

Their mouth's purpose (the circle on their tummy) can absorb, and drain the lifesource of their prey. If this fails, each nanobot will trap a portion of their prey in their mouth then move outward in different directions. Much like dissolving the enemy.

You certainly don't want to mess even a single Justice Magnet because these guys can alarm the entire army in a second.

"Yellow Nature"

Description:

Yellow Nature is an eco-friendly robot that works outdoors. His main duty is to maintain balance among the grasses, and the flowers.

His skin is as bright as the sun which in fact can camouflage him well. If you look upwards you'll be blinded by his skin, if you look downwards, you'll be fooled to see a ladybug or a rosebud by the distance.

Yellow Nature's lifesource is solar-powered. The plates on his right ear, and feet are solar panels to absorb the sun's rays. His lifesource can last up to 24 hours.

In case he is in near-drained-state, he will plug himself (the socket on his back - center) to a nearby battery source.

"Oracle Eye"

Description:

The Time Master is a notorious spirit who creates havoc in time. He was imprisoned into a robot for his foolishness; now named into "Oracle Eye".

Oracle Eye is sentenced to predict the future for eternity. Anyone who wishes to know their fate must read the symbols at the back of its head.

It reads:

I whisper to the elements

To seek my fate

Bring forth the light

As I summon the Oracle Eye

Once you're drawn into the blue light that comes out from the Oracle Eye, it will project objects or phrases about your fate. These are only clues. No one knows how and when these clues will happen.

Anyone who wishes to release the Time Master inside the robot must break the shell on its back with the same power as the one who imprisoned him.

Bright Day to Dance

"Bright Day to Dance" is my third and last entry to Dance Dance Revolution Philippines' second Logo Competition. It's a DDR logo inspired project with elements found in our country's flag.

Dance Dance Revolution has a variety of unique logos for each game version no matter what gaming platform you have.

I've chosen this as inspiration.

Yup, yup, yup! Three entries is enough for me . Fun, fun, fun! XD

Compact Dance

"Compact Dance" is my second entry to Dance Dance Revolution Philippines' second Logo Competition. It's a Compact Disc with our flag's sun, and stars, and DDR buttons as its cover design.

I got the inspiration from the song select screen of Dance Dance Revolution 2nd, 3rd, and 4th mix.

I even googled a Compact Disc as added reference to the project.

In case you're wondering why I didn't place the text around the logo, well if I did, the entire project will lose the visualized idea of the logo as a Compact Disc. Also, there are similarities from the Department of Tourism Philippines' logo, other government logos, and the Rotary Club XD

I forgot to explain this on my previous DDR logo entry post but the purpose of the variations of the logo is to show how flexible, and versatile it would be when placed on different projects, and as well as on print.

Philippine Sun on a Dance Pad

"Philippine Sun on a Dance Pad" is my entry to Dance Dance Revolution Philippines' second Logo Competition. It shows a DDR PlayStation Dance Pad that looks like our flag's sun.

This project took me two weeks to finish. It could have been a week and a half if it wasn't for the major issue to accidentally work on the same layer XD

Anyway, inspiration came in when looking at these pictures.

There was a point when I decided the upper right, upper left, lower right, and lower left arrows where to be fixed to color gray and to adjust the opacity to make them a bit unnoticeable. Good thing the second picture helped me replace the PlayStation controller symbols to arrows.

I had a blast with this project, I might make another XD

The Alphabet Project I

I always wanted to make an Alphabet Project using raw materials but never had any plan when to do it. Good thing the idea subconsciously popped in my head after eating at a buffet restaurant with my family in Davao City.

After devouring a number of those lively red, mouth-watering watermelons as my dessert, I started using my fork to form the letters from A to Z. I was in a hurry because I knew we were leaving in a few more minutes.

Whew! Finished just in time to burp :)

Had fun with this project. I'll be making another set with different materials so stay tuned to that :)
